Milwaukee--Art City: Zweig, Art ads, Frankie Martin, Jefferson Pinder
Dear art and architecture lovers,
Deep breath. What a week!! I am literally pooped.
Did you know who artist Janet Zweig was last week? How about now? So much has been written about this public art controversy this week that I hope you'll forgive me for not repeating myself. Instead, check out this pretty exhaustive roundup of what's been tweeted, blogged, written and remixed (can you say Mike Brenner?) about town.
In what somehow seems like related news, please also see the newest innovation from David Robbins, advertising for art, which I believe is going to run on late night television. This is an idea pregnant with possibilities. Love it.
Other things from the blog this week: A question about why there are so few women architects, news about Terese Agnew's "Portrait of a Textile Worker" in New York and the sad revelation about the closure of Paper Boat.
Now, for a few suggestions for your weekend.
Please consider hitting the Green Gallery West from 8 to 11 tonight for the return of artist Frankie Martin, who I am wonderfully fond of and who I've written about in the past. Also, tomorrow, consider the all-day Multimedia & Performance event at UWM. Artist Jefferson Pinder, whose work is on view at Inova, talks at 10:30am.
For art the tickles the nose and tastebuds, consider two Art in Bloom and the edible book show at Woodland Pattern. Here is Paul Kosidowski's lovely pitch for these sensory experiences.
